MAJIDOV WINS BY SECOND ROUND STOPPAGE

In truth, Little needs to be at national level and has been outclassed by a very handy opponent tonight, one who is destined for big things even at 33.

1:49 of round two, not hanging around. The Baku-based fighter goes 2-0 and it won’t be long before we see him again.

For Little, he’ll head back to Blighty and plan his next move. No disgrace tonight, he showed big heart.

IT’S ALL OVER! GRAY WAVES IT OFF!

Brilliant heart from Little, but Majidov is teeing off here and lands some more huge combos.

The Azerbaijani has Little on the ropes and Steve Gray jumps in at the right time – the Brit was unsteady on his feet and the writing was on the wall.

25 Minutes Ago7th December 2019
DOWN GOES LITTLE!

What a shot that was – huge right hand on the side of the head and early in the second, the Brit is down but beats the count…

27 Minutes Ago7th December 2019
MAJIDOV VS LITTLE – ROUND ONE

Majidov was a stellar amateur, an Olympic star – this is a huge test for Little, whose last three fights have seen defeats to David Price, Daniel Dubois and Filip Hrgovic (a man coming up later).

What a platform though for Tom, who takes some big early shots as Majidov gets to work at range. Real thud in these punches.

There’s some proper power behind the right hooks and Little responds with a couple of tidy one-twos, but it’s a first round dominated by the heavy favourite.

MAJIDOV VS LITTLE

Right then, enough of the talk.

We’ve got about four hours before AJ vs Ruiz – and it’s an undercard dominated by the big men.

First up, an eight-rounder to get us started. Azerbaijan slugger Majidov knocked out Ed Fountain in NYC in his first ever pro fight and tonight goes up against Hatfield’s Tom ‘Not So’ Little.

The fighters have made their walk, so let’s get this one on the road.

FIGHT FACTS!

Pro records: Andy Ruiz Jr 33-1 (22 KOs) Anthony Joshua 22-1 (21 KOs).
In the first fight, Joshua landed 47 of 176 (26.7%) total shots while Ruiz connected on 56 of 206 (27.2%).
Eddie Hearn insists he’d like to see the winner fight former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, the WBO mandatory.
Despite knocking AJ down FOUR times in NYC, the judges scorecards at the time of the stoppage were Ruiz 57-56, 57-56, 56-57.
Ruiz was a late replacement for Jarrell Miller back in June, who failed multiple drug tests.

FIGHT PURSE

AJ is rumoured to be making more than £60MILLION for his part in the rematch tonight…

51 Minutes Ago7th December 2019
What happened at the weigh in?

There were plenty of eyebrows raised when Ruiz clambered onto the scales yesterday afternoon.

In the baking sun he was clad in trainers, tracky bottoms, a t-shirt and an outrageous sombrero.

Slipping a large gold chain into his pocket before hitting the scales – yeah, we’re stumped too – the Mexican heavyweight drew gasps when he weighed 20st 3lb.

Our man on the ground Wally Downes Jr reckons there might be some mind games going on here and Ruiz exaggerated his weight gain to throw AJ off.

As Wally put it: “What else was in his pockets and could anything have been hidden under his hat or top?”

AJ meanwhile tipped the scales at just 16st 13lbs, the lowest he’s been for a world title fight.

AL QAHTANI WINS!

80-72, 78-74, 77-75

Impressive from the homegrown talent, who is based in Mitcham and delights in taking the applause from the soaked Saudi fans in the cheap seats.

He dominated the fight in truth and the three inch reach advantage over a game Dusary was telling.

Our first undercard bout is in the bag – now it’s time for Tom Little to take centre stage in the desert.

Here’s how our two heavyweights compare ahead of tonight’s main event…

1 Hour Ago7th December 2019
AL QAHTANI VS DUSARY – ROUND SEVEN

We’ve action right now in the Arena, where North West raider Omar Dusary is up against home favourite Zuhayr Al Qahtani.

The Blackburn-based Kuwaiti is boxing outside of Britain for the first time and has given a really good account of himself against the self-titled ‘Arabian Warrior’.

With a round to go though, Dusary probably needs a big shot to maintain his unbeaten record and go 8-0…

1 Hour Ago7th December 2019
Who is fighting tonight?

Heavyweights Dillian Whyte, Alexander Povetkin, and Filip Hrgovic are all in action at the soggy Diriyah Arena this evening, before the main event.

Here’s how fight night from Saudi Arabia is set to pan out:

Andy Ruiz Jr vs Anthony Joshua (ring walk 8.45pm – WBA Super, IBF, WBO, IBO world heavyweight titles)
Alexander Povetkin vs Michael Hunter (heavyweight)
Dillian Whyte vs Mariusz Wach (WBC interim heavyweight title)
Filip Hrgovic vs Eric Molina (WBC international heavyweight title)
Mahammadrasul Majidov vs Tom Little (heavyweight)
Bring a brolly, boys? I thought we were in the desert?!

1 Hour Ago7th December 2019
IT’S finally here – the biggest boxing event of 2019 is dropping tonight from Saudi Arabia.

Less than six months after they last stepped into a ring, Andy Ruiz Jr and Anthony Joshua return to battle it out after their jaw-dropping first encounter at Madison Square Garden.

That bout was billed as AJ coming over the Atlantic to conquer America, parading his belts before setting up a unification showdown with Deontay Wilder.

As we all know, the big-punching Ruiz – drafted in just a few weeks before the fight as a stand-in – had other ideas.

Joshua hit the canvas FOUR times in the Big Apple, looking out of sorts despite himself landing two mighty blows on the Mexican early in the encounter.

Afterwards, it was a blur for boxing fans around the world as they processed what had just happened.

Now though – taking advantage of the rematch clause in the original contract – Joshua is back and ready to win back his belts, rebuilding his reputation.

Riyadh and the Diriyah Arena has the eyes of the world on it tonight as two heavyweights go toe-to-toe. You do NOT want to miss this.

Before the main event we’ve got live coverage of Dillian Whyte’s long-awaited comeback plus more heavyweight action with Alexander Povetkin.

Settle in with us here on SunSport for what could prove to be another historic night – this time it really could be lift-off for AJ…
